Before move‑in: approvals & utilities

  • Residency approval confirmed; deposit/fees paid.
  • Lease and community rules received and read.
  • Utility accounts set up (water, sewer, electric, gas, trash, internet).
  • Mailing address, mailbox key, and delivery holds updated.
  • Parking plan for move‑in day (route & clearance confirmed).

Day 1: safety & setup

  • Water on; check for leaks; label shut‑off valves.
  • Power on; label breaker panel; test GFCIs.
  • Test smoke and CO alarms; place fire extinguisher.
  • Walk the lot: trip hazards, skirting, steps/railings.
  • Take photos of the site and home condition for your records.

Week 1: settle in & meet neighbors

  • Confirm trash/recycling day; review amenity access.
  • Introduce yourself to adjacent neighbors; swap contact info for emergencies.
  • Speed limits, parking, and quiet hours understood.
  • Pets registered (if required) and picked‑up areas known.

First 30 days: compliance & comfort

  • Lot tidy: lawn/landscaping set; storage out of sight if required.
  • Heat tape/insulation checked (where applicable).
  • Any add‑ons (sheds, porches, fencing) approved in writing before starting.
  • Emergency contacts and severe‑weather plan posted on fridge.
