Before Move-In

Complete these tasks before your moving truck arrives:

  • Approval confirmation: Get your application approval and move-in date in writing.
  • Lease & rules received: Read, highlight key sections, ask questions.
  • Utilities scheduled: Water, electric, gas, internet turn-on confirmed for Day 1.
  • Address change: File USPS change-of-address. Update banks, employers, subscriptions.
  • Mailbox setup: Confirm mailbox or cluster box number and key pickup.
  • Move-in day parking: Reserve space for moving truck/trailer if needed. Notify neighbors.

Day 1 (Move-In Day)

Safety first, then unpack. Complete these checks before you settle in:

Safety Systems

  • Water system check: Turn on faucets, check for leaks. Locate and label main shut-off valve under home.
  • Power verification: Test outlets in each room. Label breaker panel circuits (kitchen, HVAC, water heater, etc.).
  • Smoke & CO alarms: Test each unit. Replace batteries if needed. Install CO alarm if you have gas.
  • Lot perimeter walk: Check skirting, steps, railings. Take photos of condition (inside and outside).

Emergency Prep

  • Fire extinguisher: Place one in kitchen, one near exit. Check pressure gauge.
  • Emergency contacts: Save park office, maintenance, and local utilities in your phone.
  • Weather plan: Identify your safe room for severe weather (interior hallway or bathroom).

Week 1

Get settled and learn the community rhythms:

  • Trash schedule: Confirm pickup days and bin locations. Learn recycling rules.
  • Amenity orientation: Visit clubhouse, pool, laundry. Get access codes or fobs if needed.
  • Neighbor introductions: Meet your immediate neighbors. Ask about unwritten norms.
  • Community rules: Review parking, quiet hours, pet policies. Confirm you're compliant.
  • Pet registration: If you have pets, register them with park office (if required).
  • Vehicle stickers: Get parking permits or registration stickers if your park uses them.

First 30 Days

Lock in good habits and address maintenance needs:

  • Lot organization: Store items properly. No flammable materials under home. Keep fire lanes clear.
  • Heat tape & insulation: If it's cold season, check water line insulation and heat tape installation.
  • Written approvals: Before adding sheds, fences, or making improvements, get written approval from management.
  • Emergency contacts updated: Add local HVAC, plumber, electrician numbers to your list.
  • Seasonal prep: Winterize or summer-prep as needed. See our Seasonal Guide.
  • Community involvement: Attend a resident meeting or social event. Join Facebook group if there is one.
